What Christmas is All About

What Christmas is All About

You’ve probably seen the Charlie Brown Christmas special that first came on television in 1965. Or – if not, maybe you’ve seen the clip that’s taken from that special where Charlie Brown screams in exasperation, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?” Linus replies and says he knows what Christmas is all about. He then proceeds to walk out on a stage and recite from memory the words of Luke 2:8-20:

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night …”

Friends, do you know what Christmas is all about?

On Christmas Eve we remember the faithfulness of Mary and Joseph, and we recall the gospel Nativity story. Just in case you, like Charlie Brown, find yourselves frustrated with a world that seems not to understand Christmas, come and gather around the manger with us for one of our three Christmas Eve services:

  • 4:30pm Family and Children’s service (though all are welcome)
  • 6:30pm Carols, Candles, and Communion service
  • 8:30pm Carols, Candles, and Communion service

Recall with us that night in Bethlehem when God chose to come into this world in the form of an infant, born in the most primitive circumstances imaginable. Bring others you know who don’t have a church home or who may share the frustration of Charlie Brown.

On Christmas Eve let’s re-center our hearts and our lives as we worship together. There will be a place for you in our Sanctuary. Won’t you come and join us?

“O Come, Let Us Adore Him. Christ the Lord!”

Christmas Blessings,  Ellen

P.S. There’s also another powerful service coming up this Sunday, Dec. 21, after our usual worship. If you or someone you know is going through a particularly hard time this holiday season, come to our Service of the Longest Night at 4pm in the Chapel. We’ll gather for a more somber Christmas service full of prayer and reflection. Hope to have you.
