The Ups and Downs of Holy Week

Do you like rollercoasters? I do! My favorite part of them is when you are slowly coming up to the top of that big … first … drop, and you can look around and see all the things ahead of you … before dropping into the fun and excitement of the next few moments!
Holy Week always feels like that for me. The joy and praise of Palm Sunday is like climbing that hill and seeing all that is before us. Then the low point comes on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday where we remember what our Savior has done for us. We mourn in the middle of our rejoicing because the joy and salvation we share came at a high price. And finally? Relief! Easter Sunday comes, and we rejoice again! Good Friday was not the end of the story; in many ways, it was just the beginning.
This week is it. Don’t miss Holy Week at First Methodist. Here’s all that’s happening:
· The Holy Week Walk: Amidst games, food, and fun things like a cake walk, we’ll teach people what Holy Week is and tell the Easter story.
· “Be Still” – a Palm Sunday Musical Cantata: Music will be separated by mini sermons that speak to Holy Week themes and what’s happening in the biblical Easter story – BOTH services! 8:45 and 11:15am.
· Maundy Thursday: I’ll have a message that will go along with music and Communion – 6pm in the Sanctuary.
· The Community Good Friday Service at Ark’s Valley View Village: Come get some food at 5:30 followed by worship at 6:00.
· And finally … Easter Sunday! With great joy, we will celebrate Easter at 8:00am (Contemporary) and 9:30 and 11:15am (Traditional).
I hope to see you at each and every service! Let's walk through these final days together and experience what our Savior did all those years ago.
