The Commitments of Confirmation Sunday

Hello Friends!
We are an extremely blessed congregation. As we continue our walk through Advent this Sunday we will also witness the Confirmation of nine of our First Methodist students. Confirmation is a great milestone in the faith journey. It’s the moment when someone personally renews his or her commitment to what was declared at their baptism and witnesses to what God is doing in their lives now, today. Our students this Sunday will be embracing the power of the Holy Spirit in a special way so they can live a life of holiness.
From early in the life of the Christian Church the tradition of Confirmation has been passed down and practiced. This Sunday you as the congregation will commit to love and care for these students and do all in your power to increase their faith, confirm their commitments, and perfect them in love. You will also be asked to commit to pray for these students so they may be true disciples who walk in the way that leads to life. This is no small commitment, and I ask you to spend some time quietly with God this week talking to Him about it. Ask God to prepare you for this responsibility - not only to these students, but to all who attend our church. Let us do all we can to walk in the way that leads to life so that others will see in us the one true God who offers grace and forgiveness from sin.
Friends, don’t miss out on this amazing moment in our congregational life! I’ll see you Sunday.
